The Bronx Zoo will relaunch its popular World of Darkness exhibit on July 12, highlighting nocturnal species like the Pygmy Slow Loris, sloths, and vampire bats. This innovative exhibit employs a reverse lighting system to simulate day-night cycles, enabling visitors to view these animals during their active nighttime hours. Originally opened in 1969 and closing in 2009, the updated exhibit will feature over 20 recreated environments that showcase how these creatures adapt and thrive in darkness. Wildlife Conservation Society members will receive exclusive preview access before public opening.
The updated World of Darkness exhibit at the Bronx Zoo invites visitors to explore 25 nocturnal species, showcasing unique adaptations to life in the dark.
Using a reverse lighting system, the exhibit promises to recreate natural light transitions, allowing visitors to observe nocturnal creatures when they are most active.
