Inside Nike's all-women half-marathon in L.A.: the good, the bad and the surprising
Briefly

The Nike After Dark tour, celebrating women's involvement in running, hosted its only U.S. stop in L.A., including a musical finale with Doechii. I decided to participate after years away from long-distance running, motivated by the event's atmosphere and the camaraderie with friends. While training was rewarding, the race day revealed challenges, including logistical issues and mixed reviews from participants. Despite some frustrations about organization, the excitement and shared experience with nearly 15,000 runners made it a memorable event.
After training for several weeks at parks and tracks around L.A., I hit the pavement alongside nearly 15,000 participants - 43% of whom were first-time half-marathoners.
The event sparked a lot of online chatter - not all positive - with some runners calling the race disorganized and a marketing event catered to influencers.
