Danny Mondello, a prominent social media influencer known as Cugine, is set to launch an Italian sandwich shop and café named Casa Cugine in Williamsburg. This establishment will replace the previously-loved Caffe Capri, which closed in 2015. Casa Cugine aims to provide a nostalgic Italian social club vibe, featuring a focused menu of recognizable sandwiches tailored for Mondello's vast following. In addition to sandwiches, drinks including iced coffee slushes and desserts like gelato and cannoli will be available. Local business owners see this as a positive addition to the community.
According to Grub Street, Anthony & Son's Sabino Curcio feels no ill will toward Mondello and actually helped him find the storefront for his sandwich shop.
Mondello wants Casa Cugine to feel like an old Italian social club, opening in a historically Italian section of Williamsburg.
Casa Cugine will serve a tight menu of Italian sandwiches that Mondello's millions of Instagram and TikTok followers will recognize.
Curcio told Grub Street, 'The way we see it, it's good for the neighborhood and the culture.'
Casa Cugine will take over the storefront that was previously home to Caffe Capri, a family-owned shop that closed in 2015.
