Briefly

On July 14, New York City faced historic flash floods, experiencing the second-largest hourly rainfall ever recorded. Videos on social media depicted severe flooding, including water flooding subway cars and pouring into the AMC Lincoln Square theater, where evacuations took place. A spokesperson explained that the flooding resulted from a storm-damaged roof pipe, affecting several auditoriums. Fortunately, upper theater levels remained unaffected and reopened the following day, ensuring that the Imax auditorium was spared from damage.
The evening of Monday, July 14, saw historic flash floods, the second-largest recorded amount of hourly rainfall in the city's history.
Evacuated moviegoers posted videos of water exploding from the ceiling into the lower level of the AMC Lincoln Square.
A spokesperson for the theater chain said the flooding was due to a storm-damaged "roof pipe" and that "impacted auditoriums and other affected areas of the theatre will remain closed as remediation work is underway."
The unaffected upper levels of the multistory theater reopened for screenings the next day, which means the massive Imax auditorium on the topmost floor was thankfully spared.
