"Moving the Roots Picnic to Belmont Plateau and bringing JAŸ-Z and The Roots together to perform are both bucket-list moments for us. After meeting with Mayor Cherelle Parker and hearing her vision for Philadelphia 250, she truly inspired us to dream even bigger, and we're grateful to her, Commissioner Susan Slawson, Jazelle Jones and everyone who helped make it happen."
The Philadelphia-based Roots Picnic festival announced its 2026 edition at a new venue, Belmont Plateau, scheduled for May 30 and 31. JAŸ-Z and The Roots will headline Saturday, marking their first collaboration performance in over a decade. This represents JAŸ-Z's first announced live appearance since joining Beyoncé for the Cowboy Carter tour finale in Paris last year. The festival's relocation and this headlining pairing are described as bucket-list moments for organizers. Shawn Gee, manager of The Roots and President of Live Nation Urban, credited Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker's vision for the city's 250th anniversary celebration as inspiration for expanding the festival's ambitions. Additional lineup announcements are forthcoming, with two-day passes currently available for purchase.
