During the La Onda festival in Napa, two bands, including headliner Grupo Firme, had to cancel their performances after the Trump administration revoked their visas. The administration cited concerns that their music glorifies cartel violence. This represents the second year of the festival, which showcases various Latin music genres, and despite some setbacks, it remained largely successful. The band is currently navigating the visa process and expressed disappointment at not performing. Other acts like Sonora Tropicana were able to perform, highlighting ongoing challenges in the music industry related to immigration.
"We are obviously disappointed that Grupo Firme was not able to play the festival due to visa issues," La Onda partner David Graham said in a statement.
"They’re not stealing anything, they come here to work," vocalist Vilma Diaz of the group Sonora Tropicana told KTVU.
One of those cancellations was Sunday night's headliner, Sinaloan band Grupo Firme, who announced the cancellation Friday night.
KTVU further reports the administration claimed their music glorifies cartel violence.
