Vampire Weekend headlined the Just Like Heaven festival in Los Angeles, showcasing a five-song medley that paid homage to indie rock with covers of popular songs from their peers, including Tame Impala and Beach House. Frontman Ezra Koenig initiated the covers with "Lisztomania" by Phoenix and sparked a dialogue with fans about the indie classification of Tame Impala. The set featured faithful renditions of tracks like Grizzly Bear's "Two Weeks" and ended with TV on the Radio's "Wolf Like Me," reinforcing the festival's dedication to the indie rock scene of the early 2000s to mid-2010s.
Before playing the next song, Koenig mentioned to the crowd that 'A friend of mine said that Tame Impala's not an indie band. He said they were psychedelic rock. Well, if my friend is correct, and I'm not sure he is, but if he's correct: you don't have to be an indie band to make an indie banger.'
They closed out their 'salute to indie' by playing Grizzly Bear's 'Two Weeks' - which was an extremely faithful cover, with harmonies, piano, snare rolls, and all.
