Wool you be there? NYC's sheep shearing fest is back
Briefly

The 14th Annual Sheep Shearing Festival at Queens County Farm Museum offers a unique experience for New Yorkers, combining agriculture, fiber arts, and family-friendly entertainment. Visitors will witness professional sheep shearers in action, ensuring that sheep maintain good health during warmer months. The festival emphasizes sustainability, with fleece processed into yarn available for purchase. Various hands-on craft activities encourage creativity. The event highlights local food vendors, interactive animal tours, and live music, all aimed at connecting attendees to farming traditions and promoting the slow-fashion movement.
"The Sheep Shearing Festival is a joyful reminder of the rhythms of farm life," said David Hughes, Executive Director of Queens County Farm Museum. "This event connects visitors to the agricultural traditions that have shaped our community."
Once shorn, the wool is sent to Battenkill Fibers in the Hudson Valley, where it's cleaned, processed and spun into beautiful skeins of sustainable yarn that are available for purchase right at the farm's shop.
