Logan Rozos, a graduate from NYU's Gallatin School, faced diploma withholding after he delivered a speech at his commencement condemning Israel's military actions in Gaza. Rozos highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, citing deaths of over 53,000 Palestinians, and called attention to U.S. support for Israel's military actions. The speech was met with mixed reactions, receiving both applause and boos. NYU later denounced Rozos's comments as a misuse of his speaking opportunity, stating he violated the commitment to express neutral views.
The only thing that is appropriate to say in this time and to a group this large is a recognition of the atrocities currently happening in Palestine.
The genocide currently occurring is supported politically and militarily by the United States, is paid for by our tax dollars.
NYU strongly denounces the choice by a student at the Gallatin School's graduation to misuse his role as student speaker to express his personal and one-sided political views.
I do not wish to speak only to my own politics today, but to speak for all people of conscience, and all people who feel the moral injury of this atrocity.
