Ontario teachers demand province increase education funding | CBC News
Briefly

A rally outside Queen's Park drew teachers, parents, and students advocating for increased funding in education, as the provincial budget allocation of $30.3 billion is deemed inadequate. Organizer Mary Fraser-Hamilton criticized the funding as insufficient when adjusted for inflation, noting growing needs like mental health issues and rising violence in schools. Teachers also highlighted larger class sizes and additional responsibilities due to underfunding. The government has raised concerns about potential mismanagement of school funds and is investigating several school boards.
When you actually adjust it for inflation, it's pennies. But on top of that, we know that the needs in school are so much greater now than they used to be.
Underfunding is leading to larger class sizes and teachers taking on roles outside their job descriptions.
We expect all school boards across the province to spend every dollar of these funds directly on students, parents, and teachers.
Ontario's core education funding has dropped by $1,500 per student since 2018, a figure the government has disputed.
