A tragic plane crash in upstate New York claimed the lives of six individuals, including a close-knit family of physicians and recent student-athletes. The twins-engine aircraft went down shortly after noon during a trip for a birthday celebration and Passover holiday, resulting in the deaths of Karenna Groff, an ex-MIT soccer star, along with her family and boyfriend. Witnesses described them as remarkable individuals who had the potential to impact many lives positively. Groff was celebrated for her achievements, including co-founding openPPE during the COVID-19 pandemic.
They were a wonderful family. The world lost a lot of very good people who were going to do a lot of good for the world if they had the opportunity. We're all personally devastated.
Really, this recognition is a testament to my MIT women's soccer family and all of the guidance, support, and friendship they have provided for me over the years.
