On May 1, 2025, a tragic accident in Soho resulted in the death of a male bicyclist after he collided with a van's open door. This collision propelled him into the path of a commercial truck, which struck him fatally at the intersection of Broome and Centre Streets. Eyewitness accounts detail the frantic efforts of first responders at the scene. The bicyclist was transported to Bellevue Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Authorities have not yet identified him or filed charges against the truck driver, who remained at the scene for an investigation.
Eyewitnesses described the scramble of first responders to save the bicyclist's life moments later. I saw a body on the ground, and then the fire people were trying to revive him. It didn't look good, an eyewitness who gave his name as Paul told amNewYork.
The bicyclist rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not yet released his identity.
So far, no charges have been filed against the individual. The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is looking into the matter.
