Exclusive | Here are NYC's worst litterers - the generation, gender may not surprise you
Briefly

A recent survey reveals that men aged 18-34 from the Bronx and Queens are identified as the city's most frequent litterers, despite expressing pride in their respective neighborhoods. Many of these 'chronic litterers' justify their behavior by noting a lack of convenient trash cans or being in too much of a rush. Interestingly, while they criticize others for their littering habits, over 30% of respondents acknowledge having littered themselves. The perception of a trash problem is widespread, with substantial complaints logged across boroughs such as Brooklyn and Queens. The situation has prompted concern among residents about community responsibility and city pride.
"It's depressing," said Anthony, a Queens resident in his 80s who has to clean up other people's litter from his own Whitestone property between two and four times a week. "I pay high taxes and it's sort of disappointing. It gets you upset also to see that nobody does nothing about it."
Roughly eight in 10 New Yorkers believe the city has a trash problem - but 38% of people admit to tossing their garbage in the street every once in a while, the survey said.
