Gov. Kathy Hochul's favorability rating has increased slightly to 44%, indicating a rare positive trend in polling, even as her overall support among voters remains low. Only 39% would currently vote for her, with 48% preferring another candidate, reflecting ongoing concerns about New York's direction. Conversely, Sen. Chuck Schumer faces significant challenges, with his favorability plummeting to 39%, marking his lowest in 20 years. Discontent among Democrats, especially progressives, appears to be rising, evident from Schumer's unfavorable ratings amid critiques of his compromise on budget issues.
"For the first time since January 2024, Hochul has a positive - barely - favorability rating," Siena poll spokesperson Steve Greenberg wrote in a statement.
"A first in a Siena College poll: Schumer is 10 points underwater, with a plurality of voters viewing him unfavorably," Greenberg said.
"While he continues to be viewed unfavorably by more than two-thirds of Republicans and a majority of independents, Schumer saw his standing with Democrats, particularly liberals, fall dramatically," Greenberg added.
"Just 41% of those polled indicated New York is on the 'right track' versus heading in the 'wrong direction.'"
