On Friday morning in Jersey City, Hudson County Sheriff's Officer Justin Rivera fell from the ninth floor of the Hudson County Administrative Building, leading to his death. First responders rushed the 29-year-old officer to Jersey City Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Witnesses reported hearing glass shatter just before the fall. The incident is currently deemed accidental, pending further investigation by the medical examiner. Rivera, remembered for his dedication and professionalism, has left a lasting impact on his community and colleagues who mourn his untimely loss.
I heard glass shatter and then immediately looked up, and saw a guy coming straight down. I saw the officers perform CPR, maybe, three times, and then just stop.
Officer Justin Rivera was just 29 years old and he had his whole life ahead of him. But now because of a tragic accident he is gone. Nothing that we say or do can change that.
(He) was a great young officer who exemplified the highest ideals of integrity, compassion and professionalism. He is lost to us all but he will never be forgotten.
