City Comptroller Brad Lander has publicly challenged Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis to a debate regarding her recent vote that cut financial assistance for vulnerable New Yorkers. Lander, who is also a mayoral candidate, delivered his challenge in person at Malliotakis' Brooklyn office. He emphasized the critical implications of the House vote that eliminated billions in Medicaid funding, affecting thousands of residents in her district and potentially jeopardizing healthcare for families and veterans. The debate is set to occur on May 28 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
"As the Chief Financial Officer of New York City, it is my duty to stand against these life-altering cuts to Medicaid - which will be disastrous for our economy and leave the families, veterans, disabled and elderly New Yorkers in Bay Ridge without care," said Lander. "See you there, Congresswoman."
Lander is responding to the House's 215-214 vote on a reconciliation bill that slashes billions in funding from health care for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers, including nearly 10,000 in Rep. Malliotakis' district.
