A recent dog attack in New York City has intensified discussions among lawmakers about the need for stronger legislation regarding pet safety and owner accountability. Penny, a service dog, was severely injured in a vicious attack by two pit bulls whose owners failed to intervene. The incident has highlighted the inadequacies of current laws, which treat dogs as property and allow negligent owners to escape responsibility. Pet owner Lauren Claus is advocating for legal amendments to better protect pets, urging immediate action from city officials and prosecutors.
I saw the video of the attack for the first time and I haven't watched it since. I can't watch it because my dog is essentially being manhandled.
I am hoping that any legislation that gets put forward is unanimously supported by both parties and that people want to amend the law.
