"His life is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by our National Guard members, who balance their roles as citizens, first responders, and soldiers. Davius was a decorated Army veteran who, before his overseas deployment, served with distinction on Joint Task Force Empire Shield, a New York National Guard security unit that defends the state's highest-profile locations from threats."
"Today, and always, we keep his family in our thoughts and prayers. May we never forget Officer Davius' sacrifice and may his memory be a blessing. His career was defined by service - to his country and to New York City."
NYPD Officer Sorffly Davius died Friday at Camp Buehring in Kuwait while deployed in support of military operations against Iran. Davius served as a major in the 42nd Infantry Division of the Army National Guard and had been with the NYPD since 2014, assigned to the 79th Precinct. Before his overseas deployment, he served with distinction on Joint Task Force Empire Shield, a New York National Guard security unit protecting the state's critical locations. Governor Hochul, Mayor Mamdani, and Police Commissioner Tisch honored his service to both his country and New York City. Seven U.S. service members have died in the joint U.S.-Israeli military operation, with six American soldiers dying in Kuwait and one succumbing to injuries from a March 1 attack in Saudi Arabia.
