US: Investigators looking at ISIS motive in NY bomb attack
"Such hate has no place in New York City. It is an affront to our city's values and the unity that defines who we are. What followed was even more disturbing. Violence at a protest is never acceptable. The attempt to use an explosive device and hurt others is not only criminal, it is reprehensible and the antithesis of who we are."
"The anti-Muslim protest was organized by far-right agitator Jake Lang, a white Christian nationalist who was jailed for his participation in the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol and has a long criminal record of assaults, civil disorder and other crimes."
A confrontation occurred outside Gracie Mansion between approximately 20 far-right anti-Islam protesters organized by Christian nationalist Jake Lang and roughly 125 anti-fascist counterprotesters. Lang, a January 6 Capitol insurrectionist with a criminal history, led the protest against what participants claimed was the "Islamification of New York and America." During the standoff, scuffles erupted, and improvised explosive devices were thrown at the anti-Islam group and near police. Two men were subsequently arraigned on terrorism charges. Mayor Mamdani, the first Muslim elected to the office, condemned both the bigoted protest and the violence, stating that such hate and explosive devices have no place in the city.
