U.S. Representative Nydia Velazquez is spearheading a congressional effort to compel SkyHop Global, a transportation company for airline crew, to resume negotiations with striking drivers in New York City. The drivers, who have been striking since November 2023, seek fair treatment after facing retaliation from the company for their recent unionization efforts. Fourteen members of Congress have joined Velazquez's call for good-faith talks, emphasizing the detrimental effects on both workers' livelihoods and shuttle services at major airports. The letter criticized SkyHop's unwillingness to negotiate since January 2024 and the labor charges filed against them.
We, the undersigned members of Congress, urge that SkyHop Global re-engage with its employees to remedy these ongoing labor disputes and restore fair treatment.
The significant economic pressures faced by these drivers highlight the need for immediate resolution, as their livelihoods hang in the balance.
