Flatbush family displaced after fire in problem-ridden apartment building * Brooklyn Paper
Briefly

A two-alarm fire at an apartment building in Flatbush displaced a family of four on Thursday, marking the second significant fire at the location since 2021. The blaze broke out in a third-floor bedroom just before 10 a.m. and was exacerbated by a blocked fire hydrant. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the family's possessions were destroyed. City records show ongoing management issues, including an unlifted vacate order from a previous fire, raising concerns about safety and response from management company Pinnacle Management.
One resident told the outlet that the fire 'could've easily been avoided.' The April 17 fire was the second to break out at 222 Lenox Road in less than four years.
City records that a vacate order issued after the 2021 fire is still partially in effect, as not all of the units affected have been repaired - and that the Department of Buildings only partially lifted the order last month.
