The childhood home of Pope Leo XIII in Chicago's suburbs has become a hot property after news broke of Robert Prevost being named the first American pope. Listed at $200,000, the owner quickly pulled it off the market, contemplating a price increase or transforming it into a museum, following four incoming offers. Realtor Steve Budzik highlighted the surreal change in the house's perceived value as it was previously unsold for over 100 days and renovated recently. The excitement surrounding the property underscores the impact of the pope's connection on real estate value.
"It's like a winning lottery ticket. What are the chances?" Realtor Steve Budzik said of the owner's decision to pull the property.
"It was listed for 200 [thousand dollars], but there is no way he's going to sell it for 200 with all the value it has now," Budzik said of the 1,200-square-foot abode.
