Bluesky is testing a new 'live' indicator, starting with the NBA
Briefly

Bluesky is testing a feature to boost NBA game visibility by adding a red border to the NBA's profile picture along with a 'live' callout. Clicking on the profile picture transports users to the live events. COO Rose Wang emphasized that the platform isn't trying to lock users in but wants to facilitate discovery of live happenings. The new feature, which also extends to WNBA games, contrasts with Twitter's previous streaming agreements with sports organizations, hinting at Bluesky's strategy to develop a dedicated sports dimension without directly competing in partnership deals.
"We aren't trapping you in Bluesky," Wang writes in her post. "We want you to use Bluesky to discover what's happening."
In an interview with SportsPro last month, Wang said Bluesky doesn't have the means or desire to take on partnerships like those, but the new live badge testing shows it's certainly not above doing what it can to nurture its burgeoning 'Sports Bluesky.'
