Attorneys for Steve Ballmer filed to dismiss a lawsuit that accuses the LA Clippers owner of participating in a scheme to funnel money to Kawhi Leonard through Aspiration. The lawsuit was originally filed July 9, 2025, by 11 Aspiration investors after the company filed for bankruptcy in March 2025, alleging investor fraud by co-founder Joseph Sanberg and others. Ballmer was added as a defendant in an amended Nov. 3, 2025 complaint after reports suggested his investment aimed to circumvent the NBA salary cap. Ballmer and the Clippers deny any cap circumvention and say they are cooperating with the NBA investigation. In September 2021, the Clippers and Aspiration announced a $300 million, 23-year sponsorship and Ballmer invested $50 million in Aspiration that month.
