Fernandez admits that Nets 'quit' in Motown
"Second-year coach Jordi Fernández admitted as much following Sunday's embarrassing 130-77 loss in Detroit before 19,899 fans at Little Caesars Arena. "It's not just that you don't play consistently ... then you quit, and we could not allow that," Fernández said in the aftermath of the Eastern Conference-leading Pistons' largest margin of victory in team history. Detroit (36-12) actually led by as many as 55 points on a night the Nets (13-35) established new season highs for turnovers and points conceded off giveaways with 25 and 39, respectively."
"Brooklyn has found itself on the wrong end of two 50-point margins this season, including helping the Knicks laugh their way to a 120-66 triumph at Madison Square Garden the last time they were seen in the five boroughs. Despite salvaging their lone win on this five-game odyssey through three different time zones, a 109-99 victory in Utah on Friday, the Nets hardly showed up for this one in the Motor City. They hung within nine through the first 12 minutes, but Detroit went on a blistering 37-6 run bridging the second and third quarters to eliminate any hope of a Brooklyn comeback."
Jordi Fernández criticized the Nets after a 130-77 loss in Detroit that drew 19,899 fans at Little Caesars Arena. Detroit led by as many as 55 points while the Nets set season highs with 25 turnovers and 39 points off giveaways. Brooklyn has suffered two 50-point losses this season and has gone 3-15 in the new year, losing eight of nine overall. The Nets won 109-99 in Utah earlier on the trip but failed to sustain effort in Detroit as a 37-6 run erased comeback hopes. Jalen Durant scored 21 points with 10 rebounds while Cade Cunningham and Daniss Jenkins added 18 apiece. Detroit now threatens to finish atop the East.
