""Kelsey for MVP, baby!" yelled teammate Sophie Cunningham."
""Vote for Mitchell!" Caitlin Clark shouted."
""Clearly, we had no answer for Mitchell," Las Vegas coach Becky Hammon said. "Couldn't even attempt to slow her down a little bit.""
Kelsey Mitchell was named one of five finalists for the WNBA MVP award for the first time. She scored 34 points on 12-for-23 shooting, the most points by a WNBA player in a first career semifinal game. Mitchell led the No. 6 seed Indiana Fever to a Game 1 upset over the No. 2 Las Vegas Aces on their home court. Las Vegas coach Becky Hammon said the Aces had no answer and could not slow Mitchell. The Fever lost Caitlin Clark and three other guards to season-ending injuries, increasing Mitchell's responsibilities and highlighting her breakout season.
