NBA places immediate leave for Terry Rozier following gambling arrest
"With just over two days into the 2025-26 NBA season, there have already been several storylines headlining the league. Arguably the biggest one came early on Thursday morning, when it was announced that the FBI had arrested three names with ties to illegal gambling probes and even mafia involvement. Those names included Portland Trail Blazers' head coach Chauncey Billups, assistant coach Damon Jones and most notably- the Miami Heat's Terry Rozier."
"Initially reported by ESPN's Shams Charania, it was stated that the FBI had stormed into Rozier's hotel room the morning following Miami's season opening loss to the Orlando Magic. He was put in handcuffs and later on made a court appearance, where federal prosecutors pushed for a $10 million bond. "Rozier had to give up his passport, put up his $6 million Florida home as collateral and was not allowed to gamble after the judge denied the prosecutor's request to do so. Even more strangely, Rozier had shown up to court reportedly wearing a Charlotte Hornets hoodie- despite being a member of the Heat- while handcuffed and wearing ankle shackles."
FBI agents arrested three individuals with alleged ties to illegal gambling probes and mafia involvement, naming Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups, assistant Damon Jones, and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier. Federal agents reportedly entered Rozier's hotel room the morning after Miami's season-opening loss to Orlando, placed him in handcuffs, and prosecutors sought a $10 million bond at his court appearance. Rozier surrendered his passport, offered his $6 million Florida home as collateral, was not allowed to gamble after the judge denied the prosecutor's request, attended court wearing a Charlotte Hornets hoodie, and was restrained with handcuffs and ankle shackles. His attorney criticized the early-morning arrest and said prosecutors had previously characterized Rozier as a subject, not a target.
