San Antonio Spurs Player Blasts Atlanta Hawks for Honoring Local Strip Club in Upcoming Game Wants Team to Cancel Festivities
"Regardless of how a woman finds her way into the adult entertainment industry, many in this space experience abuse, harassment, and violence to which they should never be subjected. I'd like to encourage the league, its owners, employees and fans to hold the Atlanta Hawks to a higher standard of what they find worthy of promoting."
"We desire to provide an environment where fans of all ages can safely come and enjoy the game of basketball and where we can celebrate the history and culture of communities in good conscience. The celebration of a strip club is not conduct aligned with that vision."
The Atlanta Hawks planned Magic City Monday on March 16 to honor the famed Atlanta strip club during a game against the Orlando Magic. The promotion included performances from rapper T.I., themed merchandise, and the club's signature chicken wings. The Hawks described Magic City as an iconic cultural institution. Luke Kornet objected to the promotion, stating the Hawks were not transparent about honoring a strip club. He expressed concerns about abuse, harassment, and violence experienced by workers in the adult entertainment industry. Kornet called on the NBA, its owners, employees, and fans to hold the Hawks to higher standards and urged cancellation of the promotion to maintain a safe, respectful environment for all fans.
