Carla Leite delivered a pivotal performance late in the game, using a right-to-left crossover and a right-handed floater while tumbling to secure points. Leite scored 15 points, added five assists, and shot 6 of 8 from the field to help the Valkyries clinch an 84-80 victory and a home playoff game in San Jose. The 20-year-old rookie has averaged 7.9 points and 2.1 assists over 34 games and came to the team after being left unprotected by Dallas in the expansion draft. Coach Natalie Nakase noted visible growth in Leite’s confidence and communication, including taking English lessons. Leite also connected with fellow French rookie Janelle Salaun on multiple critical 3-pointers as the crowd celebrated the milestone.
