"You're him, aren't you?"
"You're that basketball player, you're him!"
"a big NBA star."
"I was born playing basketball; I mean, I like to say I had a ball in my hand since the day I was born,"
Karim López is an 18-year-old, 6-foot-9 forward from Hermosillo, Sonora who plays for the New Zealand Breakers and is an NBA draft prospect. He practiced as a child on a concrete court less than a block from the city center and now attracts fans, selfies and autograph requests when he appears locally. A crowd gathered during a filming session and a man called him a big NBA star, though he has not yet been drafted. López could become the first Mexican-born first-round NBA pick and join a small group of Mexican players to reach the league in nearly 80 years.
