Bill Belichick and His Girlfriend Filed a Trademark for the Term Gold Digger' Seriously
Briefly

Bill Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson filed to trademark the term Gold Digger, intending to use the mark on jewelry and key chains. A company owned by Belichick and managed by Hudson submitted the filing. The pair also filed 17 other trademarks earlier in the year, including Chapel Bill, The Belichick Way, and Trail of Salty Tears. The Trail of Salty Tears trademark drew criticism for referencing the Trail of Tears, the forced displacement of Native Americans in the 19th century. The filings prompted public backlash and debate over motives and sensitivity.
Belichick, who's now the head coach at the University of North Carolina, went public with his relationship with Jordon Hudson in the fall of 2023. As is often the case when an older, famous person finds themselves attached to a much younger, relatively unknown romantic partner, many were quick to assume that Hudson was simply in it to elevate her own status.
The couple hasn't stopped there. As noted by Rovell, Belichick and Jordan's company filed 17 other trademarks earlier in the year including Chapel Bill, The Belichick Way, and Trail of Salty Tears. The latter trademark, seemingly another way of trolling their critics, received backlash for being a play on the Trail of the Tears the forced displacement of Native Americans in the 19th century.
