""In our first game last year, I was a little anxious playing them," Woodhouse told the Times. "It felt weird rooting against him at times.""
""I said, 'Heck, yeah, I'm honored that he's got an opportunity to work for you,'" Reid said. "I got the biggest kick out of that, that Jim would even think of that. ... What a class act.""
""I don't want to dim that light on him," Herbert said. "I want that light brighter.""
Devin Woodhouse is the Chargers' head strength and conditioning coach and the son-in-law of Chiefs coach Andy Reid. The family tie adds an under-the-radar layer to the Chargers-Chiefs AFC West rivalry and creates a friendly family-feud dynamic without bad blood. Woodhouse joined the Chargers after working on Jim Harbaugh's Michigan staff, and Harbaugh called Reid before hiring him; Reid welcomed the move and praised Harbaugh's class. Woodhouse is respected on the Chargers' staff, supports players while being candid, and was initially reluctant to be interviewed until encouraged by Harbaugh, Reid and Ben Herbert. Woodhouse grew up in Rancho Cucamonga and married Drew Ann Reid in 2013.
