Dolphins ask to interview sixth coach candidate, one who has ties to new GM
"The Dolphins are requesting to interview Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, according to a league source confirming an initial ESPN report Sunday afternoon. Hafley, 46, has held that role in Green Bay, where Sullivan was vice president of player personnel, for two seasons. Incidentally, he succeeded Joe Barry, Dolphins linebackers coach the past two years, in that role for the Packers."
"Hafley joins the five coach interview requests revealed Saturday: former Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh, former Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator and former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh, Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula. Miami was expected to pursue Hafley after Sullivan was named GM on Friday. Hafley is up to five interview requests. The Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons and Las Vegas Raiders are the others."
"The delay in reaching out to Hafley likely was a byproduct of the Packers playing a wild-card round playoff game Saturday night. They were eliminated in a 31-27 loss to the Chicago Bears. Another caveat to Green Bay's defeat, after leading, 21-3, is Packers coach Matt LaFleur could now be on the hot seat. If Green Bay were to let LaFleur go, a reunion with Sullivan in Miami could be in the works."
The Miami Dolphins requested to interview Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, 46, who held the role in Green Bay for two seasons while Jon-Eric Sullivan was vice president of player personnel there. Hafley succeeded Joe Barry in Green Bay and has accumulated interview requests from five teams, including Tennessee, Arizona, Atlanta and Las Vegas. Hafley's inclusion follows other Dolphins targets: John Harbaugh, Kevin Stefanski, Robert Saleh, Klint Kubiak and Chris Shula. The Packers' wild-card loss to the Chicago Bears delayed contact, and Packers coach Matt LaFleur's position could affect Hafley's availability. Hafley previously coached at Boston College and Ohio State.
