Two years after a Rose Bowl matchup where both freshmen threw two interceptions and Cal won 33-7, Dante Moore and Fernando Mendoza have developed into premier college quarterbacks. Each quarterback started as a freshman under differing circumstances and gained experience while helping their teams win. Two seasons later, Moore and Mendoza lead undefeated teams ranked in the top 10 and positioned for the College Football Playoff. Both have become unexpected NFL draft risers within a fragmented quarterback class. Evaluations among NFL personnel differ, with some gaining momentum for Mendoza and others ranking Moore among the top three quarterbacks.
