Kansas extends offer deadline for Chiefs, Royals
Briefly

The Kansas Legislative Coordinating Council extended a deadline for the Chiefs and Royals to utilize a financing plan covering 70% of a new stadium's cost amidst a potential relocation. The deadline is now June 30, 2026, though a decision is sought by December 31. Chiefs president Mark Donovan emphasized the opportunity to establish a new NFL venue in Kansas. The teams currently operate in Missouri but face expiring leases in January 2031, as previous funding efforts for stadium renovations have failed.
Together, we have the opportunity to bring the National Football League to Kansas, anchored by a world-class domed stadium, new team headquarters, a state-of-the-art practice facility, and a vibrant mixed-use and entertainment district.
The Chiefs and Royals have played for more than five decades at the Truman Sports Complex, where Arrowhead Stadium and Kauffman Stadium share parking facilities.
