Miami's Lewis encourages Lacy, resilient Rebels
"These kids, their hearts are broken. I grabbed him because I'm a fan of Lacy. I think he's dynamic. I watched him from the middle of the season all the way through it. But when you get to this point, you're like, 'Oh my gosh, my life has ended.' No, it's just beginning. Now you got to learn something. Pick your teammates up."
"Sometimes the battles sharpen you so that you can deal with them."
Kewan Lacy left the Fiesta Bowl visibly injured, wearing a black arm brace and a bandage on a hamstring torn during a 73-yard touchdown run. Ray Lewis stopped Lacy and told him he learned more from losses than wins, urging him to learn and pick up teammates. Ole Miss lost to Miami 31-27 in a game with six lead changes and a final-play finish. The Rebels endured midseason turmoil after coach Lane Kiffin left for LSU but kept winning, beating Tulane and No. 3 Georgia and finishing with a school-record 13 wins and the program's first playoff appearance.
