NFL playoff picture projections: Updated chances to make the postseason, win divisions
"The Chiefs' loss to the Eagles in a Week 2 Super Bowl rematch did nothing to improve their standings in the playoff picture. They're no longer projected to win the AFC West, according to ESPN Analytics. In fact, they are third in division title chances behind the Chargers and Broncos. This would be the first time the Chiefs have not won the AFC West since 2015."
"We used ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) to project the rest of the season, looking at the playoff picture for both conferences. The Colts continued their dream 2-0 start to the season with a win over the Broncos and their staunch defense; Indianapolis now has the fourth-best chances to make the playoffs in the conference. Meanwhile, Joe Burrow's injury has created a nightmare for the 2-0 Bengals -- but they are still fifth in AFC odds."
"The Buccaneers and Eagles round out the top three, while the 49ers leapfrog over the Rams in the NFC West race. The Giants remain at the bottom of the playoff race and could be vying for the top overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft -- despite a strong showing from Russell Wilson in an overtime loss to the Cowboys."
ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) projects the remainder of the 2025 season and provides updated odds for playoff qualification, division titles and Super Bowl berths. In the AFC, Kansas City fell after a Week 2 loss and now ranks third in AFC West title chances behind the Chargers and Broncos, potentially ending its streak of division titles since 2015. Indianapolis is 2-0 and holds the fourth-best AFC playoff chance after beating Denver. Joe Burrow's injury weakens the Bengals' outlook despite an early 2-0 start. In the NFC, Green Bay sits atop projections, with Tampa Bay and Philadelphia also near the top and San Francisco overtaking Los Angeles in the West. New York remains at the bottom and could contend for the top pick in the 2026 draft. Wild-card round is Jan. 10-12, 2026; divisional round is Jan. 17-18, 2026.
