'No, we don't': Ex-Panthers Mayfield, Darnold won't reminisce on Carolina days
"Uh, reminisce about what days?"
"Uh ... nope. No, we don't."
"I'm happy for him -- from going a couple different places that weren't great for us to having a good opportunity elsewhere, it's fun to see. I knew he just needed that chance, and he's thriving now. It's good to see, but hopefully not this weekend."
Baker Mayfield rejected reminiscing about his time with the Carolina Panthers when asked about Sam Darnold, saying they do not reminisce. Mayfield described a close relationship with Darnold and expressed happiness for Darnold's improved situation, while adding he hopes to beat him that weekend. Darnold started 11 games for Carolina in 2021 and went 4-7. In 2022 the Panthers traded for Mayfield, who suffered a high ankle sprain and was later benched; Darnold took over in Week 12 and finished 4-2. Mayfield signed with Tampa Bay in 2023, led a 9-8 season and division title, and later secured a three-year, $100 million contract.
