Patriots' Drake Maye, Christian Gonzalez named to AFC Pro Bowl roster
"Maye has been named one of the three quarterbacks to represent the AFC at the Pro Bowl Games in February, joining Josh Allen and Justin Herbert. The three NFC quarterbacks are Sam Darnold, Dak Prescott, and Matthew Stafford. The honor is technically not the first of Maye's career, as he was invited to participate in last year's Pro Bowl Games as an alternate after Allen withdrew because of an injury. Maye also competed in "Passing the Test" event as part of the skills challenge."
"Gonzalez, meanwhile, is one of four cornerbacks representing the AFC, joining Cleveland's Denzel Ward, Houston's Derek Stingley Jr., and Denver's Patrick Surtain II. The two NFC cornerbacks are Carolina's Jaycee Horn and Seattle's Devon Witherspoon. For Gonzalez, the nod is long awaited. The 2023 first-round pick had his rookie season cut short because of a torn labrum and then was snubbed last year. After the NFL released last season's rosters, Gonzalez tweeted the laughing emoji."
"The Pro Bowl rosters are finalized using input from fans, coaches, and players, with each group accounting for one third of the vote. In the final results of the fan voting, the Patriots had six players in the top 10 of their position: Maye (second), Gonzalez (sixth), center Garrett Bradbury (eighth), tight end Hunter Henry (eighth), outside linebacker Harold Landry (ninth), and special teams player Brenden Schooler (fifth)."
Drake Maye was named one of three AFC quarterbacks for the Pro Bowl Games, joining Josh Allen and Justin Herbert, while Sam Darnold, Dak Prescott and Matthew Stafford represent the NFC. Maye previously attended last year's Pro Bowl Games as an alternate and took part in a skills event. Christian Gonzalez earned an AFC cornerback spot after missing most of his rookie year with a torn labrum and being overlooked last season. Fan, coach, and player votes each count for one third of Pro Bowl selections. The Pro Bowl will feature a 7-on-7 flag football game and skills competition on February 3 at Moscone Center.
