QB Sorsby, top player in portal, commits to TTU
"For 2026, Texas Tech lured perhaps the biggest -- and likely most expensive -- fish yet. Sorsby ranked No. 1 overall in ESPN's Portal rankings. He'll project as one of the top quarterbacks in the country next year, as he earned second-team All-Big 12 honors last year. Tech has earned a reputation for being one of the sport's biggest spenders; ESPN's Max Olson reported earlier this year that the Red Raiders spent more than $3 million on edge rusher David Bailey last year."
"Sorsby was expected to be at or close to the top of the market this year, which sources predicted would project around $5 million. It's unknown what Sorsby got, but the competition between two of the sport's biggest spenders means it'd be a surprise if he wasn't atop the sport's highest paid players in 2026 and surpassed that $5 million number. Sorbsy proved one of the country's most effective dual-threat quarterbacks in 2025, as he threw for 27 touchdowns and rushed for nine more. He also threw for 2,800 yards and rushed for 580."
Brendan Sorsby, the top player in the NCAA transfer portal, is committing to Texas Tech following visits to Lubbock and LSU. Texas Tech's aggressive transfer spending helped the program capture its first Big 12 title and finish as the No. 4 College Football Playoff seed. Sorsby was impressed by Texas Tech's facilities and the culture established by the coaching staff. He ranked No. 1 in portal evaluations and earned second-team All-Big 12 honors last season. Sorsby passed for 2,800 yards with 27 touchdowns and rushed for 580 yards and nine touchdowns in 2025. He projects as a top quarterback prospect for the 2027 NFL Draft class.
