Sanders to play Sat., downplays Gabriel remark
Briefly

Kevin Stefanski said, barring a setback, rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders will see the field in the Browns' preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams. Cleveland plans to play starters, including Joe Flacco, 20 to 25 snaps, with Dillon Gabriel as the backup and Sanders as the third quarterback. Sanders missed joint practices and the second preseason game with an oblique strain but returned to team drills and practiced this week. Sanders described his oblique as fine and downplayed a controversy after Gabriel's on-air "entertainers" comment, which many interpreted as referencing Sanders. Gabriel later told Sanders the remark was not directed at him. Sanders was selected in the fifth round and has drawn a brighter spotlight than another rookie drafted earlier.
When Gabriel was asked during the CBS Sports broadcast about "tuning out the noise" surrounding the Browns' quarterback competition, Gabriel said, "Yeah, it's just part of it. You know, there's entertainers and there's competitors, and I totally understand that. But my job is to compete. And that's what I'm focused on doing."
Stefanski said Tuesday that, barring a setback, Sanders would see the field. Cleveland will play its starters, including newly named starting quarterback Joe Flacco, between 20 to 25 snaps. Stefanski said rookie Dillon Gabriel would be the backup and that Sanders would play third.
"Everything's good," Sanders said of his oblique injury.
