""It was like 'This is going on. Everybody get back to the hotel.' Once we got back we weren't allowed to leave or go outside,""
A downtown Providence hotel housed the Buffalo Bills less than two miles from an active-shooter scene near Brown University. Two people died and nine were injured; a person of interest was taken into custody the following morning. Players received emergency text alerts while dining and were instructed to return to the hotel and remain inside. The team increased hotel security and maintained internal communication among staff and players. The Bills traveled to Gillette Stadium for their scheduled game, where a moment of silence was observed for the victims before kickoff. Local authorities urged shelter-in-place while police responded.
