How the Kraken's Joey Daccord uses VR for goalie excellence
""I was like, 'I feel like I've been standing still for 2½ hours already. I need to see some pucks,'" he recalled."
""I think it's been instrumental in my career and a factor for why I'm able to play the way that I do at the NHL level. It's integral in my training and my preparation," Daccord said."
Joey Daccord used a Meta Quest headset and NHL Sense Arena during a game to counter inactivity and regain focus before the third period. The VR environment transformed his hands into a blocker and a catch glove and placed him in front of a 3D goal cage while dozens of virtual pucks were fired from different angles. After the VR session he stopped 11 of 12 shots in the third period to preserve a Seattle Kraken win. Several NHL goalies, a PWHL star, USA Hockey and many NCAA Division I programs use the platform. Daccord described the tool as instrumental and integral to his training and preparation.
