""It's a record that a lot of people thought wasn't achievable, and he did it.""
""But just to be part of that game is pretty special. It was pretty cool seeing him break the record. I've never heard a rink so loud in my life. And when he scored, seeing him dive across the ice was pretty cool.""
""It's something I would have never dreamed of. And to put it into words is kind of hard, because it's just a pretty cool moment for hockey and myself, personally.""
Marc Gatcomb, a fourth-line winger for the New York Islanders, scored two goals in the game during which Alex Ovechkin broke the NHL all-time goals record. The two goals bookended Ovechkin's record-breaking tally and marked Gatcomb's only multi-point game. Gatcomb had been a longtime minor-leaguer who made his NHL debut in January and registered nine points (8g, 1a) in 38 games last season. Gatcomb was a junior in college before a coach suggested an NHL future. Gatcomb kept souvenirs from the milestone and called the arena the loudest he had ever heard.
