Last seasons defeat sees Stars retool for the 2025-26 season
"Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger is one of the top goaltenders in the league. Since he arrived in the NHL, he has been consistent and showed tremendous determination. He has proven every season to be an elite goaltender and last season was no different. He posted a record of 36-18-4 with a 2.59 goals against average, a .909 save percentage, and two shutouts. However, he struggled slightly in the playoffs, posting a 9-8 record, a 2.28 goals against average, and a .905 save percentage."
"The 23-year-old Bourque has played well during his limited action with the Stars and could be in for a big year with a spot now open. If he can have a big training camp he may be in line for a permanent roster spot this season. The Plessisville, Quebec, Canada native produced 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points in 73 games last season."
The Dallas Stars reached the 2025 Western Conference Final but were eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers four games to one. The team made minimal offseason changes and largely retained its core while adding depth, including defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok via trade and acquisitions such as Colin Blackwell and Nathan Bastien. Jake Oettinger produced strong regular-season numbers (36-18-4, 2.59 GAA, .909 SV%) but showed a modest playoff decline (9-8, 2.28 GAA, .905 SV%). Young forwards like Mavrik Bourque could earn larger roles after limited action and may compete for a permanent roster spot.
