Leafs' Matthew Knies not taking Olympic camp invite for granted
"I've got to earn my way on that team come February"
"It was an honour. To be amongst some of the best players in the U.S., it's special. And to be invited to that, I'm not going to take it for granted. I just have to earn my way on to that team come February -- I'm just going to try to work my hardest."
Matthew Knies received an invitation to Team USA's Olympic orientation camp in Michigan and will compete for a roster spot for the upcoming best-on-best Olympic tournament. Knies previously represented the United States at the 2022 Winter Olympics as a University of Minnesota freshman before making his NHL debut. Knies currently plays wing for the Toronto Maple Leafs and emphasized that he will not take the invitation for granted, saying he must earn his way on the team and will work hard. The camp will feature many star American forwards, making roster competition significantly tougher than in 2022.
