"It's a boy. We haven't picked the name yet, so we'll probably do that in the next couple days. It's been awesome. Obviously not a lot of sleep, but it's been great. Wife has been battling. Some tough nights, but she's unbelievable. So I've just been there to support her and do whatever I can to make it better. But yeah, it's an awesome feeling. We are so happy and everybody's doing good."
"We knew a little bit before, so it was kind of the smart decision to go back. Thankful to the team for understanding and making it happen. That means a lot to us."
Ekman-Larsson, a 34-year-old defenseman for the Toronto Maple Leafs, welcomed his newborn son on Monday afternoon and returned to play against the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. He left the team in Minnesota on Sunday to be present for his wife's delivery and expressed gratitude to the Maple Leafs organization for accommodating his departure. Despite experiencing sleep deprivation typical of new parents, Ekman-Larsson felt good returning to the ice and logged a team-high 25:53 of ice time. The Leafs lost 3-1 to the Islanders, and the team continues to struggle in the Eastern Conference standings.
