Spencer Carbery honored by players after winning 100th game as Capitals head coach: 'It has been the ride of a lifetime'
""Carbs, 100th win," Ovechkin said, presenting Carbery with a game puck."
""It's been, I speak for my family as well, it has been the ride of a lifetime, the last two-plus years working with you guys every day and getting to show up at the rink and working with the staff here. So this is a big thank you.""
""Pretty humbling, just be able to coach in the National Hockey League and coach this great organization. My family and I to think about - the guys brought it up - the two years and 19 games, it's flown by. But we've had the time of our lives, and just count the lucky stars every day.""
Spencer Carbery recorded his 100th win as Washington Capitals head coach in a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings, and captain Alex Ovechkin presented him a game puck to mark the milestone. Carbery reached 100 wins in 183 games with a 100-61-22 record, tying for the 23rd-fastest in NHL history and ranking fourth-fastest in Capitals history behind Barry Trotz, Bruce Boudreau, and Peter Laviolette. Carbery described the past two-plus years as the ride of a lifetime, expressed gratitude to his family, players, and staff, and called the achievement humbling. Carbery began coaching in 2010-11 with the South Carolina Stingrays and later served as their head coach and director of hockey operations.
