Cole Hutson, 19, a defenseman for the U.S. world junior team, was struck by a puck during the preliminary game against Switzerland in St. Paul and was stretchered off and briefly hospitalized. USA Hockey reported he was discharged and rejoined teammates at the arena and is day-to-day. The incident occurred with 8:59 left in the second period when a shot by Gian Meier appeared to hit the back of Hutson's helmet, causing him to crumple. USA coach Bob Motzko said he did not believe the puck struck Hutson on the head and praised the team's composure; the U.S. won the game.
