"Hey, Zohran, take a walk on the highway side."
"At this critical moment before the project moves to construction this Spring, our coalition welcomes your administration to meet with residents, learn about our community's fresh vision for the area, and explore how the City can help advance our community's vision,"
"We share the goal of repairing our aging infrastructure through a standard repair, which should not needlessly expand the footprint of the highway."
Siddhartha Sanchez, executive director of the Bronx River Alliance, invited Mayor Mamdani and DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn to walk the Cross Bronx Expressway with advocates and hear community suggestions for rehabilitating the highway without enlarging its footprint. The coalition requested a meeting before construction this spring. Advocates opposed NYSDOT's earlier plan to build a diverter road that would be later converted into a 'community connector' with a travel lane, bus lane and shared path. Residents and officials viewed that plan as a de facto expansion. State DOT canceled the diverter last year, but advocates still object to remaining repair plans.
